Christians under the Catholic faith have been urged to contribute towards the completion of the ambitious Catholic cathedral project, which requires an estimated $5 billion. The construction aims to create a monumental place of worship and community gathering, symbolizing faith, heritage, and unity.
The fundraising initiative was officially launched during a ceremony attended by prominent dignitaries at kasese Catholic parish in kasese municipality. The event was graced by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa, who represented President Yoweri Museveni as the guest of honor. Demonstrating his support and commitment, Tayebwa donated 200 million shillings to kick-start the campaign, encouraging others to follow suit.
He promised the Bishop of diocese of kasese rt rev acquirinus kibira Kambale that he will be introducing him to his rich friends that could support this project.
During his address, Deputy Speaker Tayebwa emphasized the importance of unity among the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the broader Christian community. He urged NRM members and citizens alike to remain united, and resilient amidst NRM primaries.
Rt rev Acquirinus Kibira, Bishop of the diocese of kasese also took the podium to inspire Christians to work diligently and combat poverty.
He highlighted that supporting the cathedral project is not only a spiritual obligation but also a means of fostering social and economic development within the community.
He called upon leaders to mark on prayers and doing good deeds if they are to succeed in life and their political careers.
The campaign calls on believers and sympathizers to contribute generously, emphasizing that collective effort is essential to realizing this historic vision.
