Traffic especially for heavy duty from Mpondwe town to the border of Uganda with Democratic Republic of Congo has been paralysed after the Mpondwe Bridge that connects these areas collapsed.
It is believed the Bridge had already shown lines of weaknesses sometimes back but efforts by Uganda NAtional Roads Authority to have it fixed were not enough.
According to Lt. Matte Magwara the deputy resident district commissioner in charge of Bukonzo county, the bridge collapsed after continuous vandalism of the bridge logistics by unruly residents searching for scarp.
