Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema has won re-election with around 60 percent of votes cast in the August 13 election, the Electoral Commission of Zambia announced on Tuesday. Hichilema, who has been in power since 2021, defeated a field of 13 challengers. Business at butcheries in Ntungamo Municipality is still slow even after government lifted an 8-month ban on slaughtering livestock due to Foot and Mouth Disease. Butchers and traders say customers have reduced because people stayed long without income during the ban. Lawrence Ndyamusiima, James Chaada and Eli Behangana said the business is struggling to recover. Prices have also gone up. The Minister of State for Primary Education, Phallis Kyemutai, says the lack of funds has continued to hinder the government from fulfilling its plan to have a secondary school in every sub-county. To fight school dropouts in the area, residents have started community efforts to build a secondary school for their children. Residents of Kyondo Cell, Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality have reason to smile after regaining hope as the long-requested desilting of the devastating River Nyamwamba has finally begun. Two vehicles have been shot in Kapapi, Hoima District following a clash over a 5 square mile piece of land between a UPDF officer and residents. The incident happened in Kapapi 1 Village, Kapapi Subcounty. The vehicles, a Toyota Mark X UBR 117L and a Toyota XS UAK 227D, were reportedly being driven by police who had gone to rescue Capt.
