Odinga, a five-time presidential contender and one of Kenya’s most influential political figures, served as Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 in a coalition government with then-President Mwai Kibaki.
According to reports by Reuters and Indian outlet Mathrubhumi, Odinga collapsed during a morning walk on Wednesday inside the compound of an Ayurvedic hospital in Kochi, Kerala State.
He was reportedly rushed to Devamatha Hospital in Koothattukulam, where doctors pronounced him dead at approximately 9:52am local time following what sources described as a cardiac arrest.
An Ayurvedic hospital is a medical facility that specializes in Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine that originated in India over 5,000 years ago.
Unlike conventional hospitals that rely mainly on modern medicine (allopathy), Ayurvedic hospitals focus on holistic healing using natural remedies, lifestyle guidance, diet, and specialized therapies.
