Kasese, Uganda — Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abas Byakagaba has visited the Rwenzori region to assess the security situation ahead of this Friday’s Omusinga birthday run and the 59th coronation anniversary of His Majesty Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma of Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu.
Mr Byakagaba arrived in Kasese District at around 10:00 a.m. and began his visit with an inspection of the Kasese Police Barracks. He later met senior police officers at the Multipurpose Hall in Nyamwamba Division, where they reviewed operational deployments and security plans for the upcoming events.
Later in the day, the IGP met with cabinet ministers of Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu to strengthen coordination and ensure smooth celebrations.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mr Byakagaba assured the public that adequate measures had been put in place to guarantee safety during the festivities.
“The events scheduled for Friday are safe and secure,” Mr Byakagaba said, urging residents to remain calm and avoid any actions that could undermine public safety.
Rt. Hon. Baritazale Kule Benson, the Prime Minister of Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu, welcomed the IGP’s visit and reaffirmed the kingdom’s cordial relationship with the government.
“We are on good terms with the government, and we appreciate the security arrangements ahead of the Omusinga’s celebrations,” Mr Baritazale said.
He also appealed to the public and well-wishers to support the forthcoming activities, noting that the celebrations require over 315 million shillings to be successful.
The IGP’s visit comes in the wake of the November 1 attacks in Kasese, Fort Portal City and Bundibugyo, incidents that have heightened security concerns in the region.
