The Uganda national roads authority (UNRA) has commenced works of fixing a provisional bridge at Bwera high way about three kilometers from Mpondwe border in Kasese district.
Business had come to a standstill after the major bridge collapsed when scrap dealers vandalized the culverts which were holding the bridge.
According to theĀ LCV Chairperson Kasese district Mr. Erifazi Muhindi noted that UNRAs interventions will put a relief to the traffic to allow heavy trucks cross normally.

He further said that this time around the bridge will be strengthened and constructed well to the required standards.
The area councillor for Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council Ayubu Majidu Bomeri requested Government to put a permanent bridge that would put all the fears of the people to rest.

Hon. Ayubu Majidu Bomeri further said that the provisional bridge that people are now using , it has a bend which is an indication of weakness. He therefore called upon UNRA to speed up their interventions of constructing a better bridge in the area.
However, some truck drivers we spoke to remained uncertain if the provisional bridge will accommodate heavy trucks.
