Concerned residents in Kasese municipality have called on the Kasese district leadership to consider local leaders in the planning process of d-silting River Nyamwamba to help guide and implement permanent solutions to its flooding.

Mr. Jafari Kigutiha, the LCI chairperson for Basecamp Lower and a concerned resident, expressed suspicion that funds meant for River Nyamwamba might be misused, emphasizing the need for local leaders’ involvement.
He advised the leadership of Kasese district not to use the funds for politics.
A proposal to buy permanent excavator machines was highlighted to benefit the majority in the district.

According to the LCIII chairperson for Nyamwamba division, Mr. Pimako Kasereka, many have no idea about the challenges posed by River Nyamwamba.
He also advised that there’s a need to have a technical team, including local leaders, engineers, and environmentalist officers.
The Nyamwamba division leadership has improvised 500 liters of fuel to help restore the river’s flow to its original valley before official d-silting begins. Over 380 billion shillings is allocated to address flooding rivers in Kasese district.
