International Justice Mission (IJM) has today met with the cabinate ministers of Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu (OBR) and members of the pricy council to train them skills of ending violence against women and children in the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu (OBR).
In the training which was held at Rwenzori International Hotel in Kasese municipality, Mr. Emmanuel Emwamu said cultural institutions are vital in disseminating information to the grass root about ending violence against women and children.
He added that 72% of violence against women and children are not reported anywhere urging the community to always report these cases to any authority near them for justice.
Rt. hon. Best Juliet Bakoko, the second deputy prime minster and the minister of gender, rehabilitation and disability affairs in OBR urged parents to take care of their children adding that when ever there is a problem, they should consult and seek guidance and advice from religious leaders, local leaders, cultural leaders in their communities.
Hon. Enock Muhindo, member of the Pricy council said many people don’t give shares to their girl children due to the mentality that they will overlook and disrespect their husbands saying this is not true but poverty make them fail to give out shares on the property of the father to the girl child.
Hon. Joshua Baluku minister of education, sports and research in the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu said courts of law over protect women which has lead to the persist of violence in homes.
International Justice Mission works in over 33 program offices across 19 countries globally focusing on combating slavery, violence against women and children and police abuse of power against people who are vulnerable.
